Decidim Fest 2023

This week we had Decidim Fest 2023 at Canòdrom. For this edition, we (the organizing committee) proposed the focus on democracy, technology and ̶a̶r̶t̶i̶f̶i̶c̶i̶a̶l̶collective intelligence, as we wanted to reflect on to what extent AI is a computationally augmented version of human intelligence, extracted from sources of common and open knowledge that were produced in a collective manner.

After the first day with the Open Assembly of the Decidim Association, we had a second day with talks and panels covering Decidim experiences from Brazil, Guipuzkoa and Austria, approaches to citizen participation powered by AI, and feminist practices for the defense of human rights in the AI era. There was also a panel on ethical challenges to the democratisation of AI that I had the honor of moderating with two outstanding researchers: Ashwin Singh (Queer In AI) and Sara Suárez-Gonzalo (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute – Universitat Oberta de Catalunya). The last day was the time for workshops and lightning talks from the open call, including the presentation of our ongoing work on Configurations of Digital Participatory Budgeting.
