Maker Faire BCN 2018

This weekend, the second edition of Maker Faire Barcelona is being held at the Pavelló Italià and CaixaForum in Montjuïc. The faire is a meeting place for engineers, artists, scientists, crafters and any citizen interested in the many facets of the Maker Movement, e.g., technology, arts, craftsmanship, science, and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) culture.

My participation consisted of giving a workshop on Saturday afternoon, with my colleague Antonio Calleja-López, entitled DECODE & BCNNOW: constructing and visualizing the Barcelona Data Commons. The talk covered the principles of the DECODE project, the DECIDIM project and the pilots BCN Data Commons and BarcelonaNow, the interactive dashboard for empowering citizens through urban data exploration. The faire was also a great chance to attend very inspiring conversations on rights with Mitchell Baker and Alistair Alexander, and digital cities, digital freedom and digital privacy with Richard Stallman and Francesca Bria.
