Participa Lab: ConsulCON 18

This week I went back to Medialab Prado to attend ConsulCON 18, the second edition of the conference about the open source political participation software powering Decide Madrid. This year I presented the interactive discovery system (which I built last year at Participa Lab) to the CONSUL community. The presentation of this work, supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness under the María de Maeztu Units of Excellence Programme (MDM-2015-0502), was part of a panel about clustering and visualization of participation with colleagues from the Spanish Plan for the Promotion of Language Technologies.

In addition to ConsulCON, this was a very special edition because it was preceded by the opening session of Ciudades Democráticas, the international conference about the challenges which are transforming the democratic nature of cities. While the two first editions of this conference (2016 and 2017) took place in Madrid, this was the first time it occurred in two cities (Madrid and Barcelona) as a collaboration between Participa Lab and the Laboratori d’Innovació Democràtica. The closing session of Ciudades Democráticas in Barcelona will be held right after with the International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (IOPD) conference and III Jornades Anuals Metadecidim (JAM18).
