In the last two weeks I have been touring central Mexico thanks to the invitation by Paola Ricaurte (Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey – Ciudad de México) and Sergio Rivera Magos (Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro). At the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey I gave a three days course of “Social Data Analysis and Visualization“ as part of the lecturer training program of this university. In particular, I presented concepts of social network analysis:
- Introduction to graph theory
- Structural metrics
- Community detection methods
- Centrality measures
- Diffusion models
- Conversation dynamics
- Case-studies of political communities on Twitter and article networks on Wikipedia
The course also included a comprehensive review of digital tools for social media monitoring and a hackaton. All these topics, following a more practical approach, were also given in the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro within the Master in Communication and Digital Culture.
