Free University of Bozen-Bolzano Seminar

Maria Menendez-Blanco, Assistant Professor at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Italy), reached out to invite me as a guest lecturer for their Human-Computer Interaction course within the Bachelor’s program in Communication Sciences and Culture. In this course, the students learn theories and practical skills needed to analyse and design digital technologies that facilitate communication in teams and communities. One focus is on Wikipedia as an online community, where they discuss topics like who contributes to Wikipedia, how design choices reflect democratic affordances in digital media, how governance helps build consensus on contentious topics, and the role of Wikipedia in today’s environment of online misinformation.

For this guest seminar that took place on Tuesday, I gave an updated version of the talk on A Tour through Source Reliability in Wikipedia. The session was very well received by the members of the Faculty of Engineering. Although it was planned as an activity for students of the HCI course, it attracted a broader audience, with several researchers in attendance. It was a privilege to engage with researchers and students from such an excellent academic institution, surrounded by the majestic Dolomites 🏔️❤️
