This week, the 30th ACM SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD’24) was held in the Barcelona International Convention Center. KDD is the premier international conference for data mining researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government to discuss the latest advancements and applications in the field. I had the privilege to contribute to this edition as local co-chair with Andreas Kaltenbrunner and to enjoy the many insightful sessions on data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
In addition, I was invited by the PhD Consortium Chairs Giulia Preti and Matteo Riondato to join a panel with Francesco Fabbri (Spotify), Yllka Velaj (University of Vienna) and Cristina Bustos (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya). In this panel, I explained my work of the WMF Research team at a non-profit community-oriented organization. Also, as the other panelists discussed the current limitations of data access now that many social media APIs are no longer available, it became a great opportunity to let attendees know about the free open data ecosystem at Wikimedia.
